Virgin Islands Game Fishing Club’s USVI Billfish Shootout Set for August 2, 2025 – Early Entry Discount Ends July 21, 2025
Release the most blue marlin and win $5000! Or, catch the largest mahi-mahi, tuna, or wahoo and pocket $1,000 for each. These are the top prizes in the Virgin Islands Game Fishing Club’s USVI Billfish Shootout, set for Saturday, August 2, 2025, at IGY’s American Yacht Harbor Marina, in Red Hook, St. Thomas.
“Sports fishermen have asked us for two years to host a billfish tournament. We’re pleased to announce it’s happening this summer,” says Kelvin Bailey, Jr., president of the board of the Virgin Islands Game Fishing Club. “Blue marlin migrate through our waters each summer, and the best fishing is right before the full moon. Like our other events, the Dolphin Derby and Wahoo Windup, the USVI Billfish Shootout will be fished in U.S. Virgin Islands waters. We invite local and visiting anglers from neighboring islands and abroad to register now and fish with us.”

Or, at the Captain’s Meeting on Friday, August 1, 2025, starting at 6:30 p.m. at the Virgin Islands Game Fishing Club in Red Hook. Drinks and light snacks will be served. Reading of the tournament rules begins at 7:30 p.m.
The Early Entry Discount of $350 ends Monday, July 21, 2025. Registration after this date is $400. The entry fee includes 4 rods. Extra rods are $50 each. The limit is 6 rods.
On Saturday, August 2, lines-in at 6:30 a.m. All boats must arrive at IGY’s American Yacht Harbor Marina by 4 p.m. for their fish to qualify. The weigh-in takes place between 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. The Awards will start at 5 p.m.
