There’s a new date for what has become one of the most popular cruiser’s weeks of the year in Dominica. Portsmouth Association of Yacht Services (PAYS) members have listened to past visitors and moved the date of this event to the second week in March. This timing is after the typically blustery breeze in February and follows the Nature’s Island of the Caribbean’s Carnival celebration in the beginning of March.

“This year’s Yachtie Appreciation Week celebrates the completion of the new mooring field in Portsmouth, Dominica,” says Hank Schmitt, founder and chief executive officer of Halesite, NY-based Offshore Passage Opportunities (OPO), who has spearheaded the philanthropic project of establishing this field. “All 30 new moorings will be in place and will be free on a first come first serve basis starting Sunday March 10th. Besides free moorings there will be discounted tours all week and Saturday March 16th there is a free YAW party at Cabrits Fort.”

PAYS encourages cruisers to visit year-round and pick up a mooring at a bargain price of $10 per night. The money goes to pay for a nightly security boat. Dominica offers a plethora of natural attractions from waterfalls to wonderful scuba diving. www.sailopo.com, dominicapays.wixsite.com/pays
