From August 1 through 5 Bonaire will host the 3rd Annual Pro Kids Freestyle Worlds. This year’s event promises to eclipse the 2006 happening where over 100 kids attended to compete for the coveted title of Pro Kid. Kids from around the globe are now competing in qualifiers in their home countries which will determine who will come to Bonaire for the finals in August.  Curaçao alone expects to have a team of over 30 riders.  New qualifiers are being held in Greece and in Asia as well as the UK and Europe. The US is hosting the North American Qualifiers in The Gorge.  All of these events will culminate in the World Freestyle Finals.  www.prokidsfreestyle.com

Bonaire is well regarded as offering some of the best freestyle conditions for competition, thanks to onshore steady trade winds and flat water.  The same conditions and warm waters make it one of the easiest places in the world to learn to windsurf.

Preceding the Pro Kids Worlds, Caribbean Wind & Sun Vacations, ABK Boardsports and Jibe City will conduct a week of fun for families from Monday to Friday, July 23 to 27. ABK will present a kids-only “learn to windsurf” camp that meets from 9:30 a.m. – 12:00 noon each morning. Participants of all levels aged 8 through 15 are grouped according to skill level.  In the afternoon Camp Host Ann Phelan will offer fun non-sailing events each day for the kids—snorkeling, sand castle contest, and scouting for pirates treasure, included in the $200 fee for clinic attendees. For adults there is a separate full-day camp scheduled on the same dates.  Contact Ann Phelan at ann@bonairecaribbean.com for information.
