AkzoNobel Expands Digital Training for Yacht Coatings Professionals
AkzoNobel introduces VR spray gun training and RealWear remote support tools for yacht paint applicators worldwide.
New VR and Remote Support Tools for Applicators
AkzoNobel has expanded digital support and training for yacht coating applicators worldwide through new virtual and remote-learning technologies developed for its marine brands, including Awlgrip, Interlux, International, and Sea Hawk.
Following the success of the company’s Awlgrip 3D Color Visualizer, AkzoNobel introduced two new tools last year:
- RealWear, a hands-free headset for live remote technical support
- VR Spray Gun, a virtual reality training system for coating application practice
Remote Technical Support Anywhere in the World
“The yachting industry is spread across the globe, and accessing real-time technical support and on-site training can be a challenge,” says Richard Jennings, Global Technical Service Manager at AkzoNobel Yacht Coatings.
RealWear technology allows applicators to connect directly with AkzoNobel technical experts through live visual communication, enabling real-time troubleshooting from virtually anywhere. The system helps reduce travel expenses, minimize downtime, and improve support response times.
Virtual Reality Training Without Paint Waste
The company’s VR Spray Gun system provides immersive practice using virtual primers, topcoats, and antifouling coatings. The simulator is designed to help users refine spraying techniques and improve consistency without consuming actual paint products.
The technology supports:
- New applicator training
- Skill refinement for experienced painters
- Reduced material waste
- Safer training environments
“We are proud to have introduced RealWear and VR Spray Gun technology,” Jennings adds. “It uniquely positions us to offer unparalleled support and training to applicators worldwide.”
What This Means for the Yacht Industry
These new systems reflect growing demand for:
- Faster technical support
- Digital marine training tools
- Sustainable application practices
- Consistent coating quality across global markets
As yacht coatings become increasingly specialized, digital support tools are helping shipyards, applicators, and refit facilities improve efficiency while reducing environmental impact.
