St. Maarten Pink Sunset Sail Celebrates 10 Years of Giving Back
St. Maarten’s Pink Sunset Sail raised over $12,500 for breast cancer awareness and mammogram programs during its 10th anniversary event.
A Caribbean Sailing Event with Purpose
Sailing has long been associated with physical and mental wellness, combining the calming effects of “blue spaces” with the freedom and teamwork found on the water. In St. Maarten, those same qualities were at the heart of the 10th annual Pink Sunset Sail held in October.
Organized by Aqua Mania Adventures, the milestone event brought together 300 guests aboard four catamarans for an evening dedicated to hope, awareness, and community support.
Record Fundraising for Breast Cancer Support
This year’s Pink Sunset Sail raised more than $12,500 in support of the Positive Foundation and the Elektralyets Foundation.
The funds help provide:
- Free mammograms for uninsured women
- Breast cancer education and awareness programs
- Community outreach initiatives across St. Maarten
Festivities began with the popular Pink Mixer at Simpson Bay Resort & Marina before guests boarded the Lambada, Tango, and two Golden Eagle catamarans for the sunset sail and a raffle featuring more than 200 locally donated prizes.
Community Spirit on the Water
“This is a milestone event for us,” says Michele Korteweg. “Seeing four boats sold out and record fundraising shows how deeply this cause resonates.”
Shelly Alphonso expressed gratitude for Aqua Mania’s “passion and dedication,” while Mercedes van der Waal-Wyatt thanked participants “for keeping the spirit of hope and awareness alive for ten wonderful years.”

The Pink Sunset Sail has grown into one of St. Maarten’s most recognized Breast Cancer Awareness Month traditions, demonstrating how marine tourism and local communities can come together to support meaningful causes.
