San Juan, Puerto Rico. The 12th Club Nautico de San Juan’s International Regatta (CNSJIR), set for February 1 to 3, 2013, offers a unique combination of hot competition for skilled sailors and a cool chance for beginners to get excellent experience.

“We look forward to hosting over 100 competitors from the Caribbean, U.S.A., Central America and the World,” says Commodore Gustavo Hermida.

Fifty-eight sailors from Puerto Rico, the U.S. Virgin Islands, British Virgin Islands, St. Maarten and Curacao are already registered.

Receive a 25% discount on the Early Bird registration fee by registering online (nauticodesanjuan.com/sailingprogram/regatta_int.htm) by October 31, 2012. For example, this means single-handed sailors pay only $67.50 and double-handed sailors pay only $90. This 25% discount applies to all classes: Optimists (Red, Blue, White and Green Fleets), Lasers (4.7, Radial and Standard), Sunfish, Club 420, IC-24s, and new this year J/24s, Open CSA Offshore Racing with Spinnakers and CSA Jib & Main. When registering online, there is a spot to type in the discount coupon code, ‘25’, in the same area that asks for credit card information.

Last year, sailors from six islands and countries took home trophies at the CNSJIR. These included Puerto Rico’s Andre Reguero in Optimist Advanced, the BVI’s Mollee Donovan in Laser 4.7, and Nikki Barnes from St. Thomas and Agustina Barbuto from St. John, U.S. Virgin Islands, in Club 420.

There are more ways to enter and win in 2013!

Everyone can expect keen competition and ideal conditions in San Juan Bay, in the historic backdrop of 500-year-old San Felipe del Morro fort. Temperatures range in the 80s and winds customarily blow 10 to 15 knots in February. This makes the CNSJIR a great tune-up regatta for the sailing season ahead, especially for those who live in cooler climates.

One day of racing will be held close to shore arena-style making this a spectator-friendly regatta.

Social activities, entertainment for the kids, meals and drinks are all part of the fun.

Direct flights depart daily from San Juan to the Caribbean, U.S. and Europe, and to Central and South America via hubs in Miami and New York. Host Club Nautico de San Juan Yacht Club is a 10 minute drive from the international airport and near to a number of hotels, restaurants, shops and sights.

The San Juan Beach Hotel is offering a special rate of $89 per night plus tax (Reservations: 787-723-8000, www.sanjuanbeach.com ) and the Caribe Hilton San Juan is offering 10 rooms at the special rate of $210 per night plus tax (Group Code: REGA13; Reservations direct; www.hilton.com). While supplies last, Allied Car Rental (Jaime Fornaris, (787) 233-4233 or corporatesales@alliedcarrentalpr) is offering a 50% discount on a vehicle during the CNSJIR with rates starting at less than $21 per day. Bring your GPS or SmartPhone for easier navigation to the regatta venue or to shop or tour the island.

Used Optimists, Lasers and Club 420s are available for charter from Club Nautico de San Juan on a first-come, first-serve basis.
