Horizon Yacht Charters Grenada (Horizon Yachts) – has hired John Pirovano as their new Yacht Sales & Service Manager.
John will be responsible for strengthening and developing three key areas of business:
- Yacht Sales. Horizon is the Caribbean dealer for Bavaria Yachts and a dealer for Fountaine Pajot Catamarans. In 2011 Horizon Grenada became the dealer for Sea Ray and Meridian motor yachts for the Southern Caribbean, covering St Lucia, Barbados, St Vincent, Grenada and Trinidad & Tobago. John will be responsible for developing sales across the region through a network of sub agents in each country.
- Yacht Management. Horizon Grenada opened an office at Port Louis Marina in 2010 with the objective of developing their private yacht management business in this brand new, first class marina facility. John will be the first point of contact for private yachts seeking assistance and management and will continue to develop this growing side of the business. It is hoped that more and more yacht owners will see the benefit of locating their yacht at Port Louis in Grenada: the gateway to the Grenadines.
- Yacht Brokerage. There is currently no properly established yacht brokerage company in Grenada. Brokerage will work hand in hand with management where Horizon will take care of a yacht while assisting the owner in its sale.
Originally from New Zealand, John has spent most of his working life in the yachting industry. John’s early sailing career developed from national competition to racing with New Zealand’s best. The early eighties bought John to America where he worked on large mega yachts before being lured into maxi yacht racing. Six years of international competition followed on famous yachts such as Bumblebee 4, Kialoa 4, Condor and Nirvana. This boat broke many blue water records including the Newport – Bermuda and Fastnet race records in ’82 and ’85 respectively.
With marriage in sight, John moved ashore to work initially for Hood Sail makers in Marblehead Mass, before moving into the Marina service and management industry. An opportunity then arose to assist in the establishment of a new mega-yacht service facility for Palmer Johnson in Savannah Georgia, leading to a position of Sales Manager, with global travel in pursuit of service work to the fast growing mega-yacht fleet.
Although never straying to far from his boating routes, John spent several years in the high speed ferry industry developing new business and operations in North America and the Caribbean. In 2010 John was enticed back to the sunshine and trade winds of the Caribbean with an offer of a job in Grenada.
John Pirovano has honed his skills with over 30 years’ experience in the Marina and Yachting Industry with roles varying from yacht sales & service to marina operations & management. His Southern Caribbean role will benefit from his international experience and help him to provide top-notch service to clients with knowledgeable, hands-on advice.
