VX One Caribbean Cup Returns to the Virgin Islands in 2025
Experience the thrill of VX One racing at the 2025 Caribbean Cup, hosted by the St. Thomas International Regatta and BVI Spring Regatta. Top teams from around the globe will compete in these world-class events.
One of the hottest one-design sport boat classes is set to make waves in the Caribbean next spring. The VX One Caribbean Cup 2025 will be hosted by the St. Thomas International Regatta (STIR) from March 28-30 and the BVI Spring Regatta (BVISR) from April 4-6. With nearly 12 teams already committed and expectations for 18 or more entries, this event is shaping up to be a highlight of the region’s sailing calendar.
A World-Class One-Design Class
The VX One is a 19-foot strict one-design keelboat built for high-performance racing. With a crew of two to three sailors and an optimum weight range of 380 to 550 pounds, over 400 VX Ones have been built since 2012, forming 11 national class associations worldwide.
Rodrigo ‘Rod’ Favela, a competitor from Dallas, TX, is already registered with his VX One Chignon. “The Virgin Islands are one of the best places in the world to sail,” says Favela. “Regret is a scary thing—that’s why you should do this event if you can.”
Caribbean Racing History
The inaugural VX One Caribbean Cup in 2016 saw fierce competition from teams hailing from the USVI, U.S., Canada, and Australia. The USVI’s Tim Pitts, sailing Cruzan Rhode, won at STIR, while the USA’s Jeff Eiber on This Side Downclinched victories at the BVISR and the overall Cup.
The 2025 VX One Caribbean Cup will follow a similar format, with each regatta scored separately. A perpetual trophy will be awarded at the BVISR awards ceremony to the overall champion of the Cup.
Logistics Made Easy
Transporting a VX One to the Virgin Islands is both cost-effective and straightforward. Up to six boats can fit in one container, with turnkey transport priced at approximately $3,200, including registration, loading, and unloading. Teams are responsible for airfare and accommodations, but the class is negotiating special rates for bareboat charters, hotels, and condos.

A Bucket-List Event for Sailors
“The highlight of the week in 2016 for me was racing over to Willie T’s rum barge and meeting the Australian VX’ers too,” says past competitor Jeff Eiber. “I didn’t know it then, but it was a bucket-list regatta!”
Don’t miss your chance to join this extraordinary event, combining world-class sailing with the breathtaking beauty of the Virgin Islands.
