Sailability Returns to St. Maarten Yacht Club for the 2026–2027 Season
An adapted sailboat, twice-weekly classes and their own mini-regatta — Sailability is back on St. Maarten.
Sailing is opening doors on St. Maarten, where a program designed for people with disabilities will return for the 2026–2027 season. The St. Maarten Yacht Club’s Sailability Program, run with the White & Yellow Cross Care Foundation, offers twice-weekly classes for six day-activity clients, plus monthly sails for the Foundation’s Sensory Group.
Launched in August 2023 with funding from Resources for Community Resilience, the program uses a specially adapted sailboat. Participants learn sailing skills while building confidence, independence, teamwork, and social connections. Sailability sailors also take part in the club’s year-end ceremony and, since 2024, race their own timed mini-regatta during the St. Maarten Heineken Regatta.
“It is incredibly rewarding to see participants grow in confidence, develop new skills, and simply enjoy being on the water,” says Saskia Revelman, SMYC manager. “Seeing that progress reminds us why making sailing accessible to everyone is so important.” smyc.com/sailability/
