Nanny Cay Marina Breaks Ground on Major Expansion Project

Major Investment in Tortola’s Marine Infrastructure

A significant boost to the BVI’s marine sector is underway. In October, Nanny Cay Marina in Tortola officially broke ground on a sweeping expansion project.

The development includes a custom Marine Travelift designed for the latest generation of 60- to 80-foot catamarans, 112 new slips for large multihulls, private vessels, and megayachts up to 165 feet, and a substantial increase in yard capacity. New visitor amenities, including a beach, high-end restaurants, retail spaces, and a luxury pool, are also part of the multi-phase plan.

“We were seeing increasing demand from larger multihulls and monohulls, and this project was designed to meet that need. The new lift and berths will allow us to handle more vessels efficiently and safely, while continuing to deliver the high level of service our customers expect,” says Miles Sutherland-Pilch, general manager.

Three-Phase Vision for the Future

The expansion represents the first of three phases in a broader reimagining of the Nanny Cay Resort and Marina.

Plans include enhanced boatyard facilities and a maritime training hub developed in partnership with H. Lavity Stoutt Community College, helping strengthen workforce development within the territory’s marine industry.

Strengthening the BVI’s Position as a Yachting Hub

The transformative economic development project is expected to be completed over the next three years, with an overall investment of $30 million to $40 million in new works and amenities.

Once complete, the expansion will further solidify the BVI’s position as one of the Caribbean’s premier yachting destinations, offering expanded capacity for larger yachts, improved marine services, and enhanced visitor experiences.
