BVI Spring Regatta & Sailing Festival

The BVI Spring Regatta & Sailing Festival is one of the Caribbean’s most popular sailing events, drawing an international fleet of racing yachts, cruising boats, and charter teams to the waters of Tortola in the British Virgin Islands. Hosted by the Royal BVI Yacht Club, the event blends high-level competition with the relaxed atmosphere for which the Virgin Islands are known.

The regatta traditionally begins with the Sailing Festival, which includes long-distance races such as the Round Tortola Race and other point-to-point courses designed to showcase the spectacular sailing conditions of the BVI. This is followed by several days of windward-leeward and island-course racing during the BVI Spring Regatta itself, with fleets typically divided into racing, cruising, bareboat charter, and multihull classes.

Established in 1972, the event has grown into a highlight of the Caribbean sailing calendar, attracting competitors from around the world. Shoreside celebrations, beach parties, and nightly entertainment at venues around the island contribute to the festive atmosphere, making the BVI Spring Regatta & Sailing Festival both a serious racing event and a lively social gathering for the global sailing community.
