Think that a NEW Powercat is out of reach? Think again!
St. Thomas’ Offshore Marine has redefined what the expectations are for new powercats in the Caribbean and they have set the bar high! Imagine all of the things that you would want if you designed your own boat: fast hull speed, dry comfortable ride, plenty of shade, easy access to all maintenance parts, a private head, a big swim platform with a swim ladder like a Grand Staircase to get you back on the boat. Topping it off is functional design for fishing and plenty of space for Limin’.
What good is the design without performance? So how did it run?
Abrie Cilliers took the All At Sea team out for a spin. Powercats are known to handle the big seas more comfortably than a monohull construction. However, there is always that nuisance problem of the “Cat Sneeze”, the consistent fine spray you get over the bow while running directly upwind or downwind. Deck Cat has conquered this issue with an extreme deep tunnel, a high freeboard and an extended bowsprit not only adding space but more importantly, providing a DRY RIDE!
But will the boat get up and go?
Without a doubt! The fully equipped model that we tested with seven people on board, full water and fuel tanks averaged over 40 mph in 3 – 4’ seas.
