Jamaica Defense Force Enhances Patrols with 22 New Metal Shark Vessels

The Jamaica Defense Force Coast Guard (JDF-CG) is ramping up its maritime defense with 22 new high-speed surface interceptor vessels. The contract for these vessels was awarded to Metal Shark, a shipbuilder based in Jeanerette, LA. These vessels will significantly boost Jamaica’s law enforcement, patrolling, and interdiction missions within the nation’s exclusive economic zone.

Introducing the 36 Fearless: A High-Performance Patrol Vessel

The vessel chosen for the JDF-CG is Metal Shark’s 36 Fearless, a high-performance center console craft. This proven platform is already in use by military, law enforcement, and first responder agencies worldwide. The 36 Fearless will play a key role in ensuring the safety of Jamaica’s waters.

Enhanced Operational Capabilities for JDF-CG

According to Henry Irizarry, Metal Shark’s Vice President of International Business Development, “Our 36 Fearless is a high-performance multi-mission platform that will drastically enhance the JDF-CG’s operational capabilities. We worked closely with the client to equip these vessels with the most appropriate technology to meet their specific operational requirements.”

Powerful Performance with Advanced Technology

Each of the 22 vessels is powered by triple 300-HP Yamaha four-stroke outboard engines, enabling them to reach speeds of up to 55 knots. These vessels are also equipped with state-of-the-art technology, including a Furuno navigation package, radar, a FLIR thermal imaging camera, and Ullman shock-mitigating seating. This combination of power and technology ensures that crews remain safe and secure, even in challenging ocean conditions off Jamaica’s coast.

The Advanced Design of the 36 Fearless

The 36 Fearless vessels feature a twin-stepped SVVT (stepped vee, ventilated tunnel) hull designed by renowned naval architect Michael Peters. This advanced hull design enhances performance, making the vessels fast, stable, and agile in demanding environments.
