The second St Maarten Charter Yacht Exhibition, alias SCYE, returns on December 5, with several stunning ‘stinkpots’ registered to attend. At least 30 Charter Yachts will be on show at Port de Plaisance, Simpson Bay Marina, La Palapa and Isle de Sol, from 97’ sloopOdysseus to 237’ RM Elegant.
Last year, SCYE debuted at full-throttle, winning plaudits among brokers for its combination of fun social events, serious seminars and easily accessible viewing. Added innovations this year include a special charter flight on December 8 between SXM and Antigua, for those who wish to continue to the Antigua show.
The Taste of St Maarten Gala will return in 2005, scheduled for Monday 5th. Sponsored Yacht Hops will also be held on the Tuesday and Wednesday. On Thursday, the Concours des Chefs competition will be judged. These last few are more than a diversion for crews and brokers – the galley is where many a charter booking is lost or won and the pressure to serve up a quality or canapé is enormous.
Once again, proceeds from the Exhibition will be channeled back into a local marine development programme, to train local St Maarteners in the skills needed for the megayacht sector in the future.
