The Great Race is the Caribbean’s premier offshore powerboat race, sending high-performance boats on an approximately 90-mile sprint from Trinidad to Tobago. Organized by the Trinidad & Tobago Power Boat Association, the race has been a cornerstone of Caribbean powerboat competition for more than five decades.
The challenging course begins in the Gulf of Paria, passes through the First Bocas, follows Trinidad’s rugged north coast, and finishes across open Caribbean waters in Tobago. The event attracts elite offshore racing teams alongside recreational competitors, with multiple racing classes, including a production class for performance pleasure boats.
Since becoming a sanctioned Union Internationale Motonautique (UIM) event, The Great Race has also featured an officially measured world-record course, making it one of the fastest and most prestigious offshore powerboat races in the region. Combining speed, endurance, and seamanship, it remains a highlight of the Caribbean powerboating calendar.
