STIR – St. Thomas International Regatta
March 26 - March 28
The home-grown, highly competitive, one-design IC24 class will be out in force with over a dozen entries, all sailing three-handed to be COVID-safe. CSA race boats registered include the Biton 52, Fox; King 40, Blitz, and J/122, Liquid. Back this year is a PHRF class for cruising boats. “As we did last June at the STYC Invitational, we will incorporate COVID protocols based on close work with the Virgin Islands departments of Health and Tourism, that make the event safe and still include what sailors love most about Caribbean regattas – great sailing,” says Dave Franzel, regatta director and director of the St. Thomas Sailing Center, the St. Thomas Yacht Club’s sailing arm. A few of these protocols include mask-wearing, IC24 crews limited to three, class bubbles, and encouraging sailors to dine at the island’s restaurants to prevent crowds ashore in the evening at the host St. Thomas Yacht Club. The three-day STIR kicks off with the one-day Round the Rocks race on March 25, a circumnavigation of the neighboring island of St. John. www.stthomasinternationalregatta.com.
