New Orleans’ ‘dueling barges’ fire identical shows from two barges on the Mississippi, viewed from both banks of the French Quarter bend. The display usually goes up at 9:00 pm. Where to watch: From the water: the Coast Guard closes the river from mile 94.3 to 95.3 above Head of Passes for about an hour around the show; this is a working, fast river, so recreational boats should hold well outside that reach. Ashore: Woldenberg Park, Algiers Point across the river, and the Bywater riverfront.
