The St. Maarten Yacht Club (SMYC) kicks off its keelboat racing season with this favorite annual race, which is open to all types of boats. In fact, a group of F18 sailors indicated an interest in taking part this year, which could increase participation significantly. Logistics are more challenging this year as the event’s signature concept of inter-island racing between St. Maarten, St. Barths and Anguilla has been adjusted due to current COVID protocols in place. Yet, since sailing events are happening worldwide, organizers are confident to host this event by ensuring that clear guidelines are in place to maintain social distancing when ashore. Plus, sponsor support, including from IGY Marinas and The Moorings, is strong. 

“We are experiencing some interesting times and are very much aware of the complications that come with organizing events. The sailing is socially distanced and therefore easier to manage. It is wonderful to be able to bring some normalcy during these abnormal times and notice a high demand for people to get out on the water.
