The Caicos Classic IGFA Billfish Release Tournament has been a big part of the Turks and Caicos Islands’ fishing community for the last 20 years. This year marks the 21st year for this fantastic event for local anglers and visiting anglers from all over the world.
This year’s event will take place from Thursday July 7th until Monday July 11th at Blue Haven Marina.
The Classic also allows us the opportunity to educate on the importance of conservation of our marine wildlife. Species of billfish natural to Turks and Caicos include the Atlantic blue marlin, Atlantic sailfish and white marlin. These are highly migratory species and can travel as far as 2,000 miles to foreign seas. The conservation of billfish is important biologically, economically, policy-wise and for our sportfishing communities. Our 2012 event hosted members of The Billfish Foundation for the first time. We are pleased to have them participate for the third year in a row by encouraging angling teams to tag their billfish and spending time speaking to the youth of the islands regarding the importance of conserving these beautiful deep sea giants.
