Bisbee’s Mag Bay Mania
Bisbee’s Mag Bay Mania is a month-long, all-release billfish tournament fished out of Magdalena Bay on the Pacific coast of Baja California Sur, Mexico, a striped marlin ground with a reputation for sheer numbers. It is the first Bisbee’s event held outside Los Cabos and the East Cape, and the first run entirely through an app rather than a dockside weigh station.
The format is new for the organiser. Teams have the whole of November and fish any three days of their choosing, declared the evening before; the days need not be consecutive. Every verified release of a striped, blue or black marlin, sailfish or spearfish scores 100 points. Releases are recorded on video with the boat’s position, date and time, and submitted through the CatchStat app, which keeps a live leaderboard for the month. Fishing is limited to a boundary within 50 nautical miles of the bay. Daily jackpots follow each team’s own first, second and third day rather than the calendar date, so a team fishing early in the month competes against one fishing late.
The base entry is $2,500 per team, with optional overall and daily jackpots on top. There is no captains’ meeting or in-person registration; the registration deadline for the inaugural 2026 event is October 31.
