Trinidad & Tobago Carnival is widely considered the largest and most influential carnival celebration in the Caribbean. Held each year in Port of Spain, the festival transforms the capital into a vibrant celebration of music, culture, and artistic expression.
The festivities begin weeks before Carnival Monday and Tuesday with steelpan competitions, calypso and soca concerts, and costume band launches. The celebration reaches its peak during the famous J’ouvert street party at dawn on Carnival Monday, followed by spectacular parades featuring thousands of masqueraders in elaborate costumes dancing through the streets to live soca music.
With its roots in centuries-old traditions and emancipation-era celebrations, Trinidad Carnival has become the cultural blueprint for many other carnivals throughout the Caribbean.
