New staff, new opportunities! That’s what’s in store at Maritime Professional Training (MPT), the largest private maritime training school in the U.S., based in Fort Lauderdale, FL. John Flanagan was appointed as the school’s new academic principal in July. Before taking on this role, Flanagan served as a ship’s officer aboard the SUNY Maritime College training ship, Empire State VI. Now, he will oversee the academic management at MPT, including regulatory compliance, curriculum development, faculty training, and strategic planning.
Focus on Hands-On Maritime Training
“The most important needs in maritime training and education today revolve around hands-on training and real-world application,” said Flanagan. “As the industry evolves, we must ensure seafarers are knowledgeable and proficient in practical skills. I am excited to contribute to MPT by developing comprehensive, student-centered programs focused on rigorous exam preparation and practical exercises. This approach will equip our students with the confidence and competence needed to excel in their maritime careers.”
