A mutual love of marine safety and security was a cause for a welcome contribution the week before Valentine’s Day. Specifically, IGY Rodney Bay Marina’s operations manager presented a brand-new marine VHF radio to Elvis Thomas, assistant superintendent of the Royal St. Lucia Police from the Gros-Islet station. With this donation, the marina also coordinated training sessions on the use of the radio for all officers at the Gros-Islet station.
“We know the police were doing their job and we were doing our job, but there seemed to be a disconnect between the two. So apart from donating needed resources, we wanted to open the lines of communication so when retrievals happen, we can put those items back in the hands of owners,” Sean Devaux, IGY Rodney Bay Marina operations manager told the St. Lucia Times.
Both parties agreed that the contribution will significantly shorten response times to any calls of yachting-related incidents in Rodney Bay and the Gros-Islet area. This donation by the IGY Rodney Bay Marina is just one of several initiatives that the marina has taken, in partnership with the Royal Saint Lucia Police Force, to enhance security in the yachting sector. www.igymarinas.com/marinas/rodney-bay-marina
