Antigua
Pippa Pettingell reports that this year’s "Green Island Bash" held on the 16th & 17th of June became a joint Antigua Yacht Club & Jolly Harbour Yacht Club Challenge with the two teams competing against each other—the only rules being…“there are no rules.”
With Saturday morning spent beating to windward in reasonably big seas, boats made it to the beautiful anchorage on the west side of the island. Representing JHYC were Cat Tales 2, Jabberwocky, Miramar, Severance, Atlantia, Blue Peter, Morning Song &, Mackenzi. The AYC contingent of Magellan, Samadhi, Hornblower, and Saraya were convincingly exposed to a lesson in “playing the game” as JHYC took the honours in all games apart from the first. In this, AYC were disqualified for not declaring an instruction manual for the Gazebo Erection Competition—not to mention the pole swapping that went on.
After the silly games, a great evening of Barbeque and music followed. Sunday morning brought Bloody Marys and grilled breakfasts, and not much energy to do anything but enjoy the conversation, the sun, and the setting. The retreat was “beat” around midday as yachts slowly left for home. Sincere thanks to Elizabeth Jordan, Peter, Frank, and George for their outstanding efforts in bringing the whole event together and for the subsidies provided by AYC.
The next event, scheduled for early August, is provisionally christened the “Carnival Cruise” for a three-day weekend in Barbuda. Check out the website for up to date information.
