Bequia: 25th anniversary Easter Regatta April 13th – April 17th

Based on last year’s record 70-plus boats, the Bequia Sailing Club is expecting to draw yachts from all over the Region as well as Europe and the USA for the Easter Regatta. The new J24 class may provide the largest-ever gathering of this growing class in the southern Caribbean.

Racing in the local fleet for the first time in many years will be Iron Duke, the newly restored 130-year-old Bequia whaleboat brought from New England by whaling legend “Old Bill” Wallace in the late 19th century.

Apart from the sailing action, there will also be the traditional Lower Bay beach splash on Easter Sunday with Sandcastle Competition and Crazy Craft race, plus
numerous shore activities for all ages under the Almond Tree in Port Elizabeth
on Easter Monday.

Fajardo New Yacht Club formed in January

The Club Nautico De Fajardo was launched by 36 sailors who met on January 19, 2006 at the Isleta Marina facilities in Fajardo, Puerto Rico. A team of experts with more than 60 years of experience including Bob Fisher, Chuck Lyman and Angel Ayala gathered to provide pointers and support as the group organizes.

A new Club House, social activities, family picnics, Sunday regattas and contract instructors for young people are all in the planning stages. All sailors are welcome and those interested in membership are invited to contact the club’s Commodore, Andy De Jesus by telephone (787) 413-9528 or email, [email protected]
