Team Bodacious got off to a hot start the first day of fishing in the 2nd Annual Abaco Billfish Challenge, held June 11-13 out of Boat Harbour, with three blue marlin releases and held off a fast and furious last day effort from Team Rum Bum to win the tournament. For their efforts, Team Bodacious owner, Pat Thomas, of Atlanta, Georgia, got to pocket $50,000 in US Gold American Eagle coins!

Thirty-four teams took to the waters off Abaco for this annual tournament that also includes the first leg of the Bermuda Triangle Series.

Day 1, two junior anglers landed and released their first-ever blue marlin – 12-year-old Chris Galati Jr, and 15-year-old Nick Cioffi. These two teens were ceremoniously baptized into the Marlin Club by being tossed into the drink once back at the marina. Meanwhile the rest of the fleet collectively caught one sailfish, two white marlin and seven blue marlin for the day.

Day 2 proved slower with the fleet releasing another seven blue marlin and one sailfish.

Day 3 was the slowest of the fishing with only five blue marlin and one white marlin released by the fleet. But, the air of tension ran high. Luis Bacardi’s Team Rum Bum released two blue marlin in the last couple hours of the tournament to tie for the lead with Team Bodacious. Thomas’ Team Bodacious ultimately won based on release time.

Meanwhile, Bacardi’s Team Rum Bum did win the tournament-within-a-tournament Bermuda Triangle Series first leg.
