Something for Everyone at IGY’s New Marinas at Resorts World Bimini

Mocka Jumbies and Rum...

Summer is one of the best times to visit Bimini by yacht. It’s easier to cross the Gulf Stream to this westernmost island chain in the Bahamas during this time of year. I’s only a 1 ½ hour cruise from Miami or 2 hours tops from Ft. Lauderdale under power. It’s a great place to rendezvous and watch fireworks both on the Fourth of July and Labor Day. What’s more, there’s a perfect place to dock your yacht.

The Resorts World Bimini Marina, in Alice Town, North Bimini, has just become the 14th yachting destination in the Island Global Yachting (IGY) network.

Must See Guide to the Bimini Islands

There are actually two marinas at Resorts World Bimini. One is the 136-slip Fisherman’s Village Marina and the other is the 94-slip Mega-Yacht Marina. This makes Resorts World Bimini the largest yacht and marina complex in the Bahamas.

“Each marina has its own personality,” explains marina manager, Richard Yarbrough. “If you stay in one versus the other, it feels like two totally different places each with its own activities. However, marina guests can enjoy all of the activities of both marinas as well as the activities and amenities of the resort.”

The Fisherman’s Village Marina opened 9 years ago and was so named because Bimini is known for its sports fishing. It can accommodate vessels up to 128-feet in length. This marina is located close to the resort’s front desk reception area and retail marketplace, which offers restaurants, shops, restroom and shower facilities, swimming pool, the Dockmaster’s Office, dive shop, fitness center, open-air sports bar with live entertainment and Thursday-Sunday outdoor BBQ with big screen TV.

The Mega-Yacht Marina was built 7 years ago and can dock vessels up to 180-feet with a controlling depth of 12-feet. Here is the fabulous lagoon-style pool, signature restaurant, Sabor, and Resorts World Bimini Casino. A new marina office opened here on Memorial Day in May.

“Ninety-nine percent of yachts here are power,” says Yarbrough. “However, we can accommodate mega-yachts and sailboats, although many sailors like to anchor.” The marinas are constructed of concrete floating docks. There’s Wi-Fi, in-slip power, single (50 amp/100 amp) and three-phase, and water. Reservations or not, dock attendants provide tie-up assistance to all yachts. Forms for Customs & Immigration, located downtown in Alice Town, are available at the marina office. Holiday weekends are so busy that these officials come to the marina to clear-in yachtsmen.

The Fisherman’s Village and Mega-Yacht marinas are located about 3 to 4 football fields away from each other making golf-carts the preferred mode of transportation. Those who’d like to sleep ashore will find Resorts World Bimini offers luxurious guest suites and expansive villas. Upgrades are underway including a new 307-room hotel.

“Resorts World Bimini Marina is the ideal fit for the IGY network, as its strategic location is just 50 miles off the coast of south Florida, en route to the Caribbean, where many other IGY destinations are located,” says Bert Fowles, vice president of marketing for IGY marinas. “The property is impeccable, offering many amenities and activities and is the perfect pick-up and drop-off location for charters. We are thrilled to offer a new element to our customers, where they have the opportunity to fish, dive, enjoy the casino or revel in the nightlife.”
