There are times when we find a gadget which makes our day on the water better – the kind of product that makes you think to yourself “why didn’t I think of this?” These gadgets aren’t usually technically advanced and complex, but rather simple, elegant solutions. Designed, developed and manufactured in the United States with American sourced materials, by boaters and fishermen looking for solutions to their own needs, Deep Blue Marine Products has created a niche market for just such gadgets and gizmos.

The Deep Blue product catalog offers unique problem-solving products to help boaters and fishermen fulfill a wide range of needs onboard. Developed by management and staff, the already innovative line keeps growing each year. Located in Tarpon Springs, Fla., Deep Blue’s state of the art manufacturing equipment, including CNC machines and laser cutters combined with old-fashioned manual craftsmanship, turns out products ranging from innovative paper towel racks to custom built-in storage systems. With the vast majority of their products manufactured in polymer materials such as King Plastic’s Starboard, they offer a lifetime guarantee against cracking and breaking.

The company was founded in 1998 by Terry McClory because he was unhappy with the quality and limited selection of products on the market to equip his new boat for fishing adventures. By manufacturing his own accessories he saw an opportunity to improve on what existed and the potential for innovative products to benefit boaters and fishermen everywhere. His new boat needed more cup holders, however he wasn’t keen on drilling holes in his brand new boat. He built cup holders with suction cups so they could be moved wherever needed. As one of the innovators of this style of mounting, McClory had no idea how many of his cup holders would end up on boats worldwide. With clients in Japan, Europe and Australia, his global business is booming.

Other accessories he designed included a knife and plier holder which didn’t leave the knife blade exposed and an organizer for fishing leader spools easily accessible and neatly out of the way. Building these accessories and using them on his boat created a demand, as his first units were sold by marine dealers he frequented. Pretty soon he was in full production and hasn’t slowed down. The suction cup mounted Spool King organizer is now one of his best sellers.

Listening to their network of professional captains and their customers looking for custom and one-off solutions, Deep Blue has expanded its line from the basic cutting boards and drink holders to spear gun racks, the Braid Buster (a device to retrieve snagged braided line), and even suction cup mounted waterproof storage for your stand-up paddle board. They also have dockside amenities such as a fish-cleaning table fully loaded with sinks, running water, storage and a choice of legs.

Despite their extensive line of products, sometimes a customer who needs something specific finds Deep Blue. Now McClory can make special orders in the custom shop where they manufacture one of a kind storage solutions for custom and semi-custom boat builders all over the United States and beyond. They take the project from idea to design, layout and manufacture, sometimes with nothing more than a sketch on a napkin or a few dimensions. McClory says this portion of his business is busier than ever, especially with the growing market trend of used boat refits.

With new manufacturing equipment and the latest CNC machines on the way, Deep Blue is expanding its facilities and growing to meet increased demand. McClory’s desire to build a product he would want to own, American made of quality materials and quality construction the manufacturer will stand behind, will surely enhance the company’s growth. It will be interesting to see what innovations it will come up with next.
