BVI Watersports Centre Enters Students in the BVI Spring Regatta

Students Elsa Meyers, Tichina
Penn, Kendrick Headley Jr., Rayshawn Mercer, Shaquille Fonseca, Ashawn
Crandall, Raymore Mercer and Stephon Smith were
introduced to the yacht charter industry of the BVI in a comprehensive course
that provided opportunities for them to learn and participate in all aspects of
sailing in a weekend cruise sponsored by the BVI Department of Youth Affairs
and Sports. The students sailed in a Bavaria yacht, donated by Horizon Yacht
Charters, for a weekend of sail teaching along with six days of instruction on
board that led to their competing in the “Bare Boat” class of the
BVI Spring Regatta.

Winning Melges racer Guy Eldridge joined Colin & Alison
Knights-Bramble in teaching the skills. During this training schedule students
completed the practical courses for RYA Keelboat and ASA Basic Keelboat
Certification. Blue Water Divers led the weekly sessions that continued into a
PADI Open Water Scuba Course. A copy of the PADI Course Manual was provided for
each student.

My sincere thanks to Guy Clothier of Yacht Shots at Nanny Cay
Marina for providing photos. Good luck to these BVI students – we
are very proud of you and are winners to us no matter how you place.
