Antigua’s Jolly Harbour Yacht Club
Pippa Pettingill reports that “At Easter we held a Rally to Barbuda; five yachts and three power boats were anchored at Spanish Point for the weekend…sailing conditions were great…and there were beach barbeques on Friday and Saturday.”
JHYC held a membership drive during Antigua Sailing week and a Boat Jumble at the BBR Sportif bar in May. The club has a new website under development at www.jhycantigua.com. “We hope to build a comprehensive site that will be useful to members and visiting yachtsmen – if any readers have any good ideas for content, please e-mail [email protected],” says Pettingill.
St. Thomas Yacht Club
Club Manager Bill Canfield reports that Verian Aguilar, Jessica Rosenberg, Christine Thompson, and Kelly O’Brien have caught Match racing fever. “They competed in their first event in Florida and it will not be their last.” Canfield also sent out congratulations to the Antilles School Sailing Team (all STYC members), one of 20 teams across the nation who qualified for the National Fleet Racing HS Championship (Mallory Cup) held in mid May in Long Beach California.
The club began Friday night racing and adult sailing classes in April, and planned to hold late spring events after the departure of seasonal snowbirds, including a new club tradition after just one year—an afternoon of Racing, Ribs, and Rock n Roll.
Canfield advised that Kathy Vennetti was awarded the Kirk Grybowski Award for being an outstanding volunteer at this (and every year’s) International Rolex Regatta. “Kathy has proven herself to be a workhorse and unsung hero for many years and this award was just a small thank you for her extreme efforts to help STYC in often not the most glamorous positions.”
