When Chuck Arnold, Northeast Sales Manager for Contender Boats, takes off from Manhattan in a stepped-hull version of the new Contender 37 center console fishing boat for a late spring high-speed offshore record run to Bermuda, he’ll be carrying a full complement of state-of-the-art electronics, underwater lighting and other gear supplied by Win-Tron Electronics, Inc., one of the world’s foremost distributors of market-leading marine electronics, components and accessories.

“Chuck Arnold, who is a well-known and respected industry pro, came to me with some tough parameters for his upcoming adventure," explained Edward A. Winder, President of Win-Tron Electronics, who will be one of three passengers accompanying Arnold on the run. “He plans to run his boat at 44 knots from the Statue of Liberty to Bermuda – nonstop!! The boat, the three people in it and the navigational system all will be tested to their capable limits, and there will be little room for error.”

With these requirements in mind, Winder put together an extensive electronics package designed to ensure a safe, record-breaking trip. The awesome array – supplied by Win-Tron from its diverse electronics offerings- starts with the new Simrad NSE12 Series chart plotter/multifunction display and GPS system.

“I chose this series not only because it is durable enough to survive the punishment, but also because it will provide excellent, dependable performance,” Winder said. “Communications will be anchored by a pair of standard Quantum VHF radios. The boat also will have a trackable GPS system to continually feed live position data via satellite so that we can monitor Chuck’s progress offshore.”

In addition, the Contender 37, which will be powered by three Yamaha 350-hp four-stroke outboards, will carry three underwater cameras and four above-deck cameras to record the action, all supplied by Aqualuma, which also is donating four of its popular, state-of-the-art A6-series blue underwater lights.

The boat also will be equipped with a GlobalFix PRO Epirb supplied by ACR Electronics, as well as an Aqua Link personal locator beacon. Ameratrail Trailers is supplying a custom-built trailer and OceanView Electronics is providing several of its state-of-the art night vision cameras.

The goal of Arnold’s offshore bid not only is to break the current New York-Bermuda crossing record, which stands at 29 hours, 30 minutes, but also to demonstrate to the boating world the solid, high-performance characteristics of Contender’s 37 center console, as well as the durability, reliability and accuracy of the electronics and other equipment carried on board.

“This kind of trip places maximum demands on everyone on board, as well as the equipment needed to accomplish the task,” said Arnold. “We knew we could count on Win-Tron Electronics to provide us with the best electronics systems on the market to help ensure our success.”
