Operating out of The Jolly Roger Restaurant Tortola, the West End Yacht Club runs six special "fungattas" throughout the racing season.
The unique Sweethearts of the Caribbean occurring around Valentines Day, has become know as something of a kick-off for the spring season while Foxy’s Cat Fight (Oct 28th – 30th) for multihulls around Halloween, grows a little crazier each year. Recently the Club has agreed to combine it’s four other events into a series sponsored by Gosling’s with the promise of some interesting prizes, rum and trophy.
So the races to count for the Gosling Race Series 2011/2012 will be:
- 37th Foxy’s Wooden Boat regatta occurring on Jost van Dyke- note this includes a "Classic Plastic’ class to enable more open participation – May 27 to 29 2011
(So any old piece of glass you can convince the committee is a 30 year old design will be acceptable). Funds go to the Jost Van Dyke Preservation Society
- 20th Annual Fire Cracker which is an "all comers" format sailed out of Soper’s Hole West End Tortola – July 1 to 3. Funds donated to KATS
- The Gustave Wilmerding "all comers" celebrating the local pirate hero of Great Thatch – West End Tortola – Dec 2 to 3. Funds donated to VISAR.
- The Dark and Stormy three day event to Anegada – March 9 to 12. From de Loose Mongoose and returning to The Jolly Roger West End Tortola.
Funds from the Dark and Stormy typically help with youth sailing needs around the Tortola.
Handicapping will be under PHRF format. Boats positions will be accumulated by a points/position system and the overall winners will be announced at The Jolly Roger at the prize giving for the 2012 Dark and Stormy. With the races spread so widely through the calendar the scoring system we will be a blend of WEYC chicanery to be fair to all and encourage everybody to participate. A large perpetual trophy will be awarded. All races will have a new Goslings event hat for participants.
Note the 2012 Dark and Stormy date will be March 9 to 12 2012!
