“The
participants of the St Lucia Christmas Sailing Festival are our salesmen for
next year,” said SLYC’s Press Officer
Michael Bryant and he could be
right.

Hailed as their most successful event yet, SLYC are plowing
some of the profits back into the community with some well-attended sailing
classes.

European Laser Champion and visiting coach Ozzy is the one in front of the blackboard imparting his
technical knowledge before heading onto the water for the practical element.

Sitting attentively is
St Lucia’s senior coach, Dr
Brigette Scholing, who looks
after the Optimist class and also Director Coordinator of the Youth sailing
program.

Also paying attention were Felix and Louis
Meixner, Danille
Beaubran, young Eric Simmons and Fredrick Sweeny.

Waiting in the wings are SLYC’s
two sailing coaches more than capable of pointing the youngsters in the right
direction. The course is quite intense and a de-brief follows the “on the
water session” it’s sometimes taped and replayed on
SLYC’s monitor.

Of course there’s a reason behind all this, not just
fun, SLYC’s sights are on the Pan Am games in
2007 and the 2012 Olympics—keep up the good work Ozzy!
