St. Croix Yacht Club is gearing up for yet another International Regatta, this time in the summer:  the Annual Caribbean Dinghy Championships, last hosted by St. Croix ten years ago.  Co-chairs Julie San Martin and Karen Stanton have been the main force in organizing the 2007 event, an annual competition that tests the skills of small boat teams from many Caribbean nations.  Each "Island Team" comprises sailors as young as eight up to those in their sixties.  Sailors will compete in Optimist Dinghies, Sunfish, Laser Radial, Laser Standards and C420s with spinnakers.  During last year’s event in Barbados, Martinique came out the winning Nation—and the sailing community expects them to come on strong in defense of their title.

Besides Martinique, Julie San Martin says she expects to see about 60 visiting sailors and their coaches from Puerto Rico, BVI, Barbados, Trinidad & Tobago and the United States Virgin Islands.  The U.S. Virgin Islands team plans to show quite the muscle this year with Thomas Barrows, Mauymi Roller, Peter Stanton, and Taylor Canfield heading up the “Home Team.”

The National teams will arrive in St. Croix Friday, August 3rd.  Racing will commence in Teague Bay, St. Croix just off the beach of the St. Croix Yacht Club on Saturday August 4th and Sunday August 5th with prizes to follow Sunday’s racing.  Let the games begin!!  Notice of Race and registration form:  www.stcroixyc.com
