Montserrat held one of its most successful fishing events, the 14th Annual Montserrat Fishing Tournament, on Saturday 25th October, 2008 at Little Bay. The weekend saw the participation of 52 fishermen on 14 boats, including  seven boats from the neighbouring islands of Antigua, Nevis, St Kitts and St. Maarten.

A sizable crowd turned up at Moose’s Place in Little Bay to witness the weigh-in and presentation of prizes.  At the end, Sea Brat from Nevis was crowned ‘The Champion Boat’ and received a cheque for EC$2500, sponsored by the Montserrat Tourist Board.   Sea Brat also secured wins in three other categories, including the largest wahoo which was caught by Capt. Julian Rigby and weighed-in at 40lbs.  They also won for the largest fish caught by a lady and for catching the most fish.

Other prizes awarded were for the largest tuna caught, which went to Thomas Sheill of Lady Desnee from Montserrat.  Emarie Estwick on the boat Bruce B from Montserrat, once again won the category for the largest fish caught by a youth.

The Montserrat Fisheries Co-op and the Montserrat Tourist Board wish to thank all the participants for entering the tournament and also all the sponsors and volunteers who contributed to the success of this year’s event.  They look forward to an even bigger and more successful tournament next year.
