Catch the largest dolphin (mahi-mahi) over 55-pounds and win $25,000 cash!

“I feel confident that the prize-winning catch will be won this year,” says Kelvin Bailey, Jr, who with Craig Friedenberg co-directs the Virgin Islands Game Fishing Club’s Dolphin Derby, sponsored by Budget Car and Truck Rental and set for April 21, 2013. “I’ve seen monsters over 55-pounds on a regular basis out there, and with over 50 anglers expected, it’s time for that prize to be won!”

What’s more, a total of over $30,000 in cash and prizes is up for grabs. Cash prizes will be awarded to anglers who catch the 10 largest dolphin by weight. Ties in weight will be broken by length. The Best Boat award will be given to the vessel with the most dolphin by weight, with ties broken by count.

Last year, Joseph Lee fishing aboard the 32’ Phoenix, Southern Belle, caught the largest dolphin, a 15.9-pounder. Meanwhile, the Best Boat award went to Bob Petersen’s 27’ Monza, Fish Tales, with 21 dolphin weighing collectively 120.3 pounds.
