This year, the PRHIR selected Puerto del Rey Marina as its host port to celebrate their traditional Regatta. The marine offers modern, attractive and ample facilities that make this space the perfect spot to hold an event like the Heineken Regatta. Throughout the year, Puerto del Rey Marina has served as host of important regattas and other water sports tournaments, like the international sailing event Gran Prix del Atlántico. The Marina’s administration welcomes this year’s edition of the Puerto Rico Heineken International Regatta. Puerto Del Rey’s executive director, Carolina Corral, said: “The sailing sport is one of great value for all of Puerto Del Rey’s family since it implies passion, dedication, and a legacy of centuries between the nautical culture.”

The Regatta continues its boom

During the past eleven years, the best competitors from the Caribbean and all around the world have come to participate in the PRHIR, making it one of the most competitive and most prestigious regattas in the Caribbean. The events are designed for all types of boats, ranging from dinghys to bigger vessels like the keelboats. Adding to this first-class competition is an energizing environment with musical entertainment and daily activities that extend until the night, as well as a wide gastronomic offer during the weekend. The activities will end Sunday, June 12, with the award ceremony. The main participating categories for big sailboats are CSA Racing, PHRF Jib & Main, J-24, IC-24, Melges 32, Raya, Mariner 19, and Hunter 21.

Light sailing boats are also welcome to participate in the categories: Hobie Cats (A/B Class), Optimist (Red/Green/Blue), Sunfish, Laser (Radial/Standard/4.7), Native boats, and Barges, in what is known as the Puerto Rico International Dinghy Regatta. These will be held at dock #85 in the Marina.

In addition to the prestige the competition offers, the winners of the PRHIR will compete for $12,000, to be distributed between all categories.

“Heineken stands out for doing legendary and memorable events that impact positively the sport and Puerto Rico’s economy. With much enthusiasm we are celebrating eleven years of organizing and celebrating a world class event that continues supporting the sailing sport. We invite everyone to join us in the new home of the Puerto Rico Heineken International Regatta in Puerto del Rey”, expressed Jolliam Berrios, Senior Brand Manager for Mendez & Co. and prominent sailor.
