It was as the Bakoua said in one of it’s headline’s, “The swell wasn’t swell with the Pontoon.” Warning to sailors: it is no longer possible to tie up to the pontoon at the Bakoua at Trois-îlets or to clear customs.

Why? Because the pontoon was swept away by the swell from Hurricane Omar on the 16th of October, 2008. This is a great loss for cruisers. There is still the Marina at Pointe du Bout at Trois-Ilets on 0596 66 07 74 and one can book by email on marina3ilets@wanadoo.fr or go to www.marina3ilets.com where you can clear.

Alternatively, go to Fort de France by anchoring in the Baie des Flamands and contacting Sea Services on 0596 70 26 69.

The marina at Marin was not affected and still welcomes cruisers with customs installed on site, enabling you to complete clearance. Contact Customs on 0596 74 91 64, or the Marina at Marin on 0596 74 83 83 or fax 0596 74 92 20. Information at VHF 9.
