“LYRICS” Leaves All Speechless in TTGFA Wahoo Tournament

Heaviest Fish of the TTGFA 2012 Wahoo tournament - Brendan Bernard from the boat "Lyrics" with his 75.5lb Wahoo and one of his crew.

Despite rough seas and overcast conditions, twenty four (24) teams competed in the 2012 Trinidad and Tobago Game Fishing Association (TTGFA) Wahoo Tournament which was hosted at the Trinidad & Tobago Yacht Club (TTYC) in Bayshore, Trinidad.

There were seventeen (17) junior anglers included in the total of one hundred and nine (109) anglers (3 Female and 106 Male) that took part in the annual event which was held on Saturday 10th and Sunday 11th of March, 2012. They were all hoping to share in the TT$35,000 worth of prizes. Together they caught 1,005lbs of Wahoo and 68lbs of King Fish.

The Best Boat winners were as follows: 1st – “Lyrics”, 2nd – “Liquid”, 3rd – “Papasan”, 4th – “GiGi 11” and 5th – “Feeding Frenzy”.

The Heaviest Wahoo prize went to Brendan Bernard with his 75.5 lbs fish which was caught on the winning boat, “Lyrics” on the second day of the two day tournament. The experienced, Anthony Telfer caught the second largest fish which weighed in at 65.5lbs on board the fourth place winner, “GiGi 11”. Junior angler, Justin Bodden reeled in a 51lbs fish on board “Liquid”. Spencer Tardieu on board “Papasan” also caught a Wahoo weighing in at 51lbs and Rajiv Devaux’s 50lbs fish which was caught on “Family” placed him in fifth place.

The best male junior angler prize was won by Justin Bodden of “Liquid” while Nikita Mac Lean of “Will Power 11” was the winner of the best female junior angler prize.

The newly introduced, North Coast Slam Prize was won by team “GiGi 11” for reeling in a Sailfish (released), a Wahoo weighing in at 65.5lbs and a 8.5lbs King Fish.

Approximately 568lbs of fish (worth TT$17,000) was donated by the TTGFA on Saturday 10th of March, 2012 to 7 Charities (Christ Convalescent Child Home, Rainbow Rescue, Credo, Marion House, Our Lady of the Wayside, Sophia House & St. Judes)

It was again a huge success thanks to the sponsors: Carib Pilsner Light, Subway (Prestige Holdings) & John Dickinson & Co.
