The Golden Hook Series Finale Wahoo Tournaments, set to take place November 13 to 14, is the one event that decides it all – both the tournament winner and the top boat winner of the yearlong annual fishing series hosted by St. Croix’s Golden Hook Fishing Club (GHFC).

“The format for the tournament will be similar to past years. Two days of fishing will be followed by the awards banquet on Monday
November 15. We will award the series prizes at that time,” says GHFC member, Kathy Mackay.

Last year, fifty-two anglers aboard 11 boats caught 15 wahoo for a total weight of 369.2 pounds.

Capt. Bill Griffin’s Lisa Ann’s won Best Boat with five wahoo weighing collectively 108.4 pounds, followed by Capt. Andy Anderson’s Beloved with three wahoo weighing 99.8 pounds and Capt. Kevin Shay’s Pure Bliss third with three wahoo weighing in at 82 pounds.

St. Croix’s Chris Anderson, mate aboard the Beloved, reeled in two wahoo for 68.6 pounds and earned the Top Angler prize. In second place was Stuart Weiss on Pure Bliss, also with two wahoo but weighing only 55.4 pounds. Jim Collinton’s one big wahoo, a 40.4-pounder caught from Mako 22, gave him the third place award.

The 2003 Overall Best Boat trophy went to Fish Tale, with Lisa Ann as runner-up. “Both boats scored 900 points, but Fish Tale arrived at the total first,” explained tournament and series director, Richard Mackay.

Overall Series Standings going into this year’s event are Leisure Lady first with 1083.3 points, Miss Becky second with 779.8 points, Two Fer Sure third with 638.5 points and Lisa Ann coming on with a strong 4th at 613 points.
