First Annual Puerto Rico Vela Cup Held in Fajardo

Over Memorial Day weekend, May 23, 24, & 25, Club Náutico de Fajardo celebrated its First Annual Puerto Rico Vela Cup. Over 30 sailboats participated in eight different classes: Racing, Cruising, Jib & Main, Beach Cat, J-24, IC-24, J-80 and Beginners.

For the first time Club Náutico de Fajardo included a “Beginners” class to allow newcomers to sailboat racing to experience their first regatta by sailing one simple long distance course each day. To be able to race on this class you had to have at least two crewmembers between the ages of seven and 14. This allowed young sailors and entire families to participate in the regatta.

The conditions were perfect all weekend with eight to 12 knots of winds and two to four foot waves. All classes raced challenging courses around temporary buoys, except the Beginners who raced long distances scenic courses around permanent buoys.

There was plenty of action both on and off the water all weekend to keep everyone happy, even the non-sailors.

Club Náutico de Fajardo and its board of directors thank the sailors, sponsors and their land & sea committees for all their efforts in making this event a success. For more information:  http://clubnauticodefajardo.com/
