Final Sarasota SUP Series Race Hits Sarasota Oct 12

The third and final Sarasota SUP (Stand Up Paddleboard) Series race takes place Saturday, October 12th in Sarasota Bay, launching from the Sarasota Sailing Squadron on City Island. The 6 mile Elite race starts at 9:45 AM, 3 mile Open race at 10:00 AM and ½ Mile Junior/Kids race starts 11:30 AM. Race entry tickets are available at https://www.eventbrite.com/event/8233656087.

Race Day Itinerary:

  • 7:30 am Racer Check In Begins – Sailing Squadron Clubhouse
  • 9:30 am Elite and Open Racer Meeting – Main Stage
  • 9:45 am Start of Elite Race – Water Start
  • 10:00 am Start of Open Race –  Water Start
  • 11:30 am Start of 1/2 Mile Junior Race – Water Start
  • 12:00 Lunch available in Sailing Squadron Clubhouse
  • 1:00 pm Kids Paddle
  • 2:00 pm Board and Equipment Demo for Adults
  • 3:00 pm Board and Equipment Demo for Kids

Each racer will be digitally chipped by Fast Finishes Inc to assure accurate racer timing and quick race results posting. Safety watercraft courtesy of Sponsors Red Bull and Marine Max Sarasota will be on the course during all races.

Sarasota SUP Oct 12 Course Map

The Sarasota SUP Series races offer a unique experience, showcasing three different Sarasota County Parks. The final third race showcases points around Sarasota Bay, launching from the Sarasota Sailing Squadron facility on October 12th. The first race was held on Siesta Key Beach in June and the second was at Nathan Benderson Park in August.

Race Classes:

Elite 6 Mile Race

Men’s and Women’s 12.6, 14 and Unlimited Divisions, Over 50 Divisions in Men’s 12.6 and 14’s, Junior Boy’s and Girls 12.6 Division.

6 miles – $45.00

Open 3 Mile Races
Men’s, Women’s and Junior Boys and Girls Race Board and Stock Surf SUP Divisions

  • Race Boards are 12.6 feet in length with displacement hulls
  • Stock Surf SUP’s have non displacement hulls under 12 feet in length

3 Miles – $35.00

Junior/Kids 1/2 Mile Races
Under 14 years of age Boy’s and Girls 1/2 Mile Course around the Mooring Field.

  • Designed as a safe and controlled course for Junior Boy and Girl paddlers who are SUP newbies.
  • Boys and Girls Race Board and Stock Surf SUP Divisions. No times given, just places.

0.5 Miles – $25.00

*Awards given to top three finishers in each division. 3 Racers must enter into a Division for awards to be given.

Awards, Prizes, Goodies:

The top 3 finishers in each division shall receive a custom wooden trophy made by local surfer and craftsman, Dale Rieke. Dizm Eco Eyewear is donating a free pair of sunglasses to each division winner and several pairs shall be raffled off after the awards. All entries shall receive a swag bag full of goodies, samples and freebies from local restaurants, bars and retail stores. The first 125 Racers to check in on site shall receive a Sarasota SUP Race Series Beach Towel. All racers will be given a ticket for a free lunch provied by food sponsors Simons Cafe, Pacific Rim and Bogeys Sports Bar and Grill. Hats, T-shirts, Coozies, Red Bull and Kona samples shall be available for Racers, Family and Friends joining in on the days festivities. All are welcome to either leave early or spend the day and demo SUP boards, lend a helping hand to local children to experience the thrill of SUP, listen to live music, have a cold Kona and enjoy the beautiful bay.

The Sarasota SUP Series races shall benefit the Suncoast Charities for Children. Elite and Open racers will be sharing the paddleboarding experience with local special needs children in an afternoon ‘Kids Paddle’ session after the races. Event sponsors, racers and participants are encouraged to all participate with a SCC Child and show them the joy of being up and out on the water.  Board and equipment demos for interested spectators follow the SCC Kids Paddle.

The races are produced by Rob Alfieri, owner of SUP Sarasota, who has partnered with SUP board manufacturer HovieSUP to produce the races. Interested sponsors and vendors are encouraged to contact Rob Alfieri at 941.704.4878.

The Red Bull MXT Truck will be on site to provide music, entertainment and race commentary during the afternoon, two Red Bull Sea-Doo’s will oversee course safety and the Red Bull Wing Team will be providing samples of Red Bull products onsite. Kona Brewing Company will be sampling their renowned brews to an always appreciative audience. Top-tier event sponsors include SUP Sarasota, HovieSUP, Kona Brewing Company, Red Bull, Loaded Longboards, TranquilMist, Sarasota Ford, Sports Authority, Brown and Brown Insurance dizm Eyewear, SUPreme Apparel, HyperFlex Wetsuits and Perception Management.

Equipment and Instructional demonstrations, food, drinks and raffle tickets are available for all competitors, spectators and the general public. The Sarasota Sailing Squadron is located at 1717 Ken Thompson Pkwy, Sarasota, FL 34236.
