The 2011 Cape Air Caribbean Ocean Racing Circuit (C.O.R.C.) finale proved exiting right down to the last race with ties broken in two of the five classes.

In Spinnaker A, Puerto Rico’s Jaime Torres on his Beneteau First 40, Smile and Wave, handily won by three points.

“We have a new boat, a new team and have trained hard all year,” says Torres. “We wanted to race the entire circuit and do well and we did. We’ll be back next year.”

Puerto Rico’s Luis Juarbe aboard his Henderson 30, Soca, beat out St. Maarten’s Frits Bus on his Melges 24, Coors Light, at the circuit-finale BVI Spring Regatta, whenCoors Light didn’t start the last race. This broke the tie between the two going into this event, with Soca ending second in class and Coors Light third.

In Spinnaker B, the winner was St. Thomas’ Paul Davis, driving his J/27, Magnificent 7.

“We are thrilled to have won C.O.R.C.,” says Davis. “We sailed all four regattas and loved it.”

In Performance Cruising, St. Croix’s Tony Sanpere’s J/36, Cayennita Grande, and Puerto Rico’s Bernardo Gonzalez’ Beneteau First 35, Bonne Chance, were tied with 3 points apiece going into the last leg of the Cape Air C.O.R.C. Cayennita Grande pulled ahead by one point to win the class, with Bonne Chance second.

“It was a great regatta,” says Sanpere.

Puerto Rico’s Dwight Rodriguez’s Beneteau First 38S5, Toda Via, won the Jib & Main Class.

Finally, in the IC24 Class, Puerto Rico’s Jorge Santiago’s Team Maximus placed first over fellow islander, Carlos Sierra, on Fuakata, by a close one point.

2011 Cape Air C.O.R.C. class winners were awarded a round-trip ticket for one to anywhere in the Caribbean Cape Air flies.

Yachts must participate in at least three regattas – one in the U.S. Virgin Islands, one in Puerto Rico and one in the BVI – to be eligible for prizes.

Nine yachts participated in the 2011 Cape Air C.O.R.C. and four - Smile & Wave, Mag 7, Dark Star and Cayennita Grande - sailed in all four regattas.

The 2011 Cape Air C.O.R.C. Series kicked-off with the St. Croix Yacht Club Hospice Regatta, February 11 to 13; continued with the Puerto Rico Heineken International Regatta, March 18 to 20, and International Rolex Regatta, March 25-27, and concluded with the BVI Spring Regatta, April 1 to 3.
