Caribbean Nautical, Mercury Marine’s dealer in the island of Curacao will now be the main sponsor of one of the largest and most important events in the island. The annual Curacao Yacht Club Blue Marlin Release Tournament, which this year celebrates its 45th anniversary, will be held from March 18 – 20. The event has been the principal and biggest tournament in Curacao with attendance of 50+ fishing boats from neighboring islands and a few from Venezuelan. Caribbean Nautical has committed their sponsorship for the next six years and it is their intention to grow the tournament towards its 50th anniversary from a semi international & club style event towards an international event spreading the event throughout Aruba, Bonaire and Curacao among others. Their objective is to increase international participants.

“This will enhance the marketing value of our brands and grow the international value of this tournament,” stated Marcel Verspuij, Managing Director, Caribbean Nautical.

As of next year, Caribbean Nautical together with their Venezuelan partners will look into the best date to fit in the tournament to allow the hardcore fishermen that cruise the Caribbean to tie into the tournament. Caribbean Nautical is targeting Cabo, Hatteras, Boston Whaler and Mercury Marine during this event.

As part of this year’s participants, there are two U.S. fishing teams partaking in this event and participation is increasing to now include Venezuelan boats due to aggressive marketing efforts through the dealer’s network.
