Bring your best Poker Face and play a hand at the BVI Poker Run

For the past decade, during Memorial Day weekend, the British Virgin Islands have become the location for one of the world’s most peculiar poker events, the BVI Poker Run. Sailors and boating enthusiasts meet for a poker game during which they sail to several locations in the BVI in search of 5 cards, seeking the winning hand at the end of the day.

Organizers will go all out, as this year marks the event’s tenth anniversary. There will be parties all weekend leading up to the big game on Sunday, May 29, 2011. During the celebration, there will be live music, beach BBQ’s, fashion shows, an awards ceremony, and even the famous Moko Jumbies.

Poker Run BVI Map“The BVI Poker Run has become a national holiday in the British Virgin Islands, as it attracts a large amount of visitors who migrate to the region from the US Virgin Islands and especially Puerto Rico. This year’s 10th Anniversary celebration will no doubt attract the largest crowd in the history of this renowned event,” expressed Javier Lopez, event co-organizer.

The starting point will be the Leverick Bay Resort & Marina. The run will then includes stops at the new BVI resort, Scrub Island, Pussers in West End, Tortola,Pirates Bight in Norman Island, Cooper Island Beach Club, and Virgin Gorda Yacht Harbor.  Lastly, participants will return to Leverick Bay to pick up their last card and turn in their complete poker hand. The best hand wins a Grand Prize of up to $15,000 cash, based on the total number of entries. 2nd and 3rd place winners will also receive cash prizes. Prior to the event, the organizing committee will hold a VIP cocktail at the Club Náutico de San Juan on Thursday, April 7, 2011.
