Atlas Marine Systems has provided electrical system design for a fleet of oil spill recovery vessels for use in the Gulf of Mexico. Working with Overing Yacht Designs in Ocean Springs, Mississippi, Atlas provided motor control design for the oil collection devices and offloading pumps used on these vessels. The first vessel of the fleet was launched, rinsed in champagne at the hands of the Ocean Springs Mayor Connie Moran, and was put into service on July 16, 2010. It is a 40 foot shallow draft vessel designed to be used in the waters very close to shore and behind barrier islands. The specialized collection devices are able to skim the oil in rough water better than previous devices. Atlas provides marine electrical design services for all types of marine projects – entire vessel designs or partial designs such as an electrical load analysis, or documents for classing agency.
