The annual JHYC Valentine Regatta is scheduled for the 11th and 12th of February. A warm invitation is extended to all Caribbean sailors. Ample free dockage for the duration of the regatta is available to visitors and participants, close to the legendary Dogwatch Tavern in Jolly Harbour
Racing Class will have three races on Saturday the 11th, and two on Sunday the 12th. Cruisers and live-a- board’s are especially welcome in Cruising Class, which will sail one race on Saturday, with longer legs than the racers, towards St Johns, Antigua, and an ocean race on Sunday morning.
JHYC membership has sky-rocketed in recent years, and our social secretary, Adrian Fearnley, has quite a lot up his sleeve for the Valentine party at - you guessed it - the Dogwatch Tavern on the evening of Friday 10th, and possibly the morning of Saturday 11th as well..
Valentine Regatta 2006 will likely be the first year of a "key sponsor" arrangement with Budget Marine, the Caribbean's favourite yacht chandlers. Founder and General Manager Robbie Ferron, who competed last year, will therefore be taking part both on and off the water. Let's hope he wins some of his old stock and promotional items which Budget could put forward as prizes. Just kidding, Robbie, I'm sure Budget Marine will do better than that!
Rick Gormley, also a regular participant in S/Y Elethea, is hoping for the traditional JHYC Valentine Regatta weather. "Let's hope it's like last year" he said. "Makes my mates from London feel quite at home - cold, grey, gusting 20 knots, and most of the time you can't see past the second stanchion due to rain of the horizontal variety".
So, visit the new JHYC web site now at http://www.jhycantigua.com/ to find out more, to register your interest on the bulletin board on http://www.jhycantigua.com/ , or phone me on (268) 464 0928, or simply show up in Jolly Harbour.
Sailing Instructions will be issued in late January and made available on the JHYC web sites, and the notice board outside the - you guessed it - legendary Dogwatch Tavern. Or, if you insist and provide an address, I can mail you a copy.
Happy sailing! Tony Sayer.
