Spectacular Diving Options Available in Grenada
With Over 50 Unique Dive Sites there’s Always Something to Discover
Featuring some of the Caribbean’s most dramatic and unspoiled underwater scenery, Grenada’s crystal clear coastline offers captivating images year-around to divers of all levels. From colorful coral reefs to spectacular ship-wrecks, this tri-island nation offers a superb variety of dive sites that is sure to suit every diver.
Ship-Wrecks:
Accessible via a short boat ride, divers are welcome to visit the "Wreck Diving Capital of the Caribbean,” and explore over twenty different ship wrecks, including the famous Bianca C.
- Bianca C - Known locally as the 'Titanic of the Caribbean', due its sheer size and presence, this mammoth cruise liner which sank in 1961, has very few rivals in the realms of warm water wreck diving. Located upright on her keel, the Bianca C sits in 50 meters (165') of water.
- The Hema Wreck – This coastal freighter which sunk off the South coast of Grenada in March 2005, is home to a large collection of nurse sharks, spotted eagle rays and some reef sharks. However, due to its position, this dive is for advanced divers only.
- The King Mitch Wreck – Located in 32 meters of water, this converted minesweeper offers exciting encounters with sharks, overhead squadrons of spotted eagle rays and up-close and personal encounters with the resident turtles.
Reef Dives:
Featuring over ten different reef dives suitable for all skill levels, visitors to these masterpieces of nature will have the opportunity to swim with a profusion of tropical fish and marvel at corals of every shape and color.
- Flamingo Bay – Often described as, “The closest you’ll ever get to diving in an aquarium,” this reef, located in Grenada's National Marine Park, is truly a treasure trove of marine life offering such sights as coral of every shape and color, numerous species of sponges and more fish than you ever thought possible.
- Boss Reef – This extensive reef extends over five-miles and offers three main dive sites, all of which feature a plethora of fish including such species as barracuda, spanish hog-fish, neon gobies, pederson cleaner shrimp, arrow crabs, and many, many others.
- Purple Rain - Called “Purple Rain” because of the large quantities of Creole Wrasse fish, this area offers a fantastic diversity of both hard and soft corals and is complimented by numerous barrel sponges. When the currents are favorable, this is an excellent drift dive.
Other Dive Opportunities:
In addition to the traditional dive sites, Grenada also offers several non-traditional sites that are a must-see for even the most ardent diver.
- Underwater Sculpture Park – Located in Molinere Bay, this man made dive locale created in 2006, was designed to encapsulate Grenada’s colorful history and folklore in the form of underwater sculptures.
- Car Pile – Created as a man-made reef during an island clean up, a varied selection of cars, including a VW bus, Chrysler and a scooter, were deliberately placed in the water. After several years in Grenada’s waters the pile has developed into a vibrant artificial reef.
Known as the “Spice of the Caribbean,” Grenada boasts some of the Caribbean’s most beautiful beaches, delectable cuisine and spices, a tropical rainforest, and a wide range of fun-filled activities such as diving, snorkeling, hiking, fishing and sailing.
