Catch the largest wahoo over 75-pounds and win $10,000 cash!
Two anglers have pocketed this booty in the last ten years. In 2012, Clive Mahabir aboard local charter boat, Mixed Bag, reeled in a whopping 91.3-pounder, while in 2003 Mike Kuszewski, fishing aboard the local charter boat, Black Pearl, landed a 94.1-pound wahoo.
“The wahoo bite has turned on so the fishing should be great on the November 17th full moon,” says tournament director, Paul Meyer. “We look forward to our regular and future participants joining us by entering.
Entrants are expected from the Virgin Islands as well as from St. Maarten.
Didn’t catch the big one? No problem! Cash prizes will be awarded to anglers catching the top ten wahoo by weight. Ties will be broken by length. The Best Boat prize will go to the team catching the most wahoo by count. Weight will be used as the tie-breaker.
Register at the Virgin Islands Game Fishing Club in Red Hook, St. Thomas, on Friday November 15 from 6:30-8 p.m. The Captain’s Meeting will be held at this time too. Entry fees are: $200 members and $250 for non-members and includes 4 rods. Extra rods are $60 each.
Fishing kicks-off Sunday November 17 with lines in the water at 6:30 a.m. The Weigh-In begins at 2 p.m. at IGY American Yacht Harbor Marina. All boats must be back at the dock to weigh their fish by 4 p.m.
An Awards Dinner will take place at the Virgin Islands Game Fishing Club on Monday November 18 starting at 6:30 p.m. Fishermen must be present to receive their awards.
