2011 Cape Air Caribbean Ocean Racing Circuit Standings After International Rolex Regatta

Some sailors tied in the standings while others solidified their scores on the leaderboard in the 2011 Cape Air Caribbean Ocean Racing Circuit (C.O.R.C.) after competing in the third leg, the International Rolex Regatta, held March 25-28, out of the St. Thomas Yacht Club, in the U.S. Virgin Islands. Next up is the final leg of the circuit at the BVI Spring Regatta & Sailing Festival, April 1 to 3, where winners will ultimately be named.

In Spinnaker A, Puerto Rico’s Jaime Torres on his Beneteau First 40, Smile and Wave, continues at the top of this class. However, Puerto Rico’s Luis Juarbe’s Henderson 30, Soca, and St. Maarten’s Frits Bus on his Melges 24, Coors Light, are now tied for second with 5 points apiece.

St. Thomas’ Paul Davis’ J/27, Magnificent 7, continues its lead in Spinnaker B. “We’re the only St. Thomas boat to do all four C.O.R.C. regattas and we’re excited about leading our class,” says Davis.

Puerto Rico’s Jonathon Lipuscek’s J/105, Dark Star, sat out the International Rolex Regatta, but still hangs on to his first place in the Racer-Cruiser class.

In Performance Cruising, St. Croix’s Tony Sanpere’s J/36, Cayennita Grande, bested Puerto Rico’s Bernardo Gonzalez’ Beneteau First 35, Bonne Chance, in the International Rolex Regatta, which means both boats are now tied with 3 points apiece.

Meanwhile, Puerto Rico’s Dwight Rodriguez’s Beneteau First 38S5, Toda Via, continues his reign in the Jib & Main Class.

Finally, in the IC24 Class, Puerto Rico’s Fraito Lugo’s Orion leads over fellow islander, Carlos Sierra, on Fuakata, by two points.

The big attraction of the 2011 Cape Air C.O.R.C. is the opportunity to win a round-trip ticket for one to anywhere in the Caribbean Cape Air flies in a raffle drawing for Cape Air C.O.R.C. entrants at the Awards Ceremony held at the conclusion of each leg of the Series. Magnificent 7’s Davis won this in St. Croix and Cayennita Grande’s Sanpere won this ticket in Puerto Rico. The tickets for both the International Rolex Regatta and BVI Spring Regatta will be drawn in Tortola.

The Cape Air C.O.R.C. concludes at the BVI Spring Regatta & Sailing Festival, set for April 1 to 3. First place winners in each Cape Air C.O.R.C. class will receive a round-trip ticket for one to anywhere in the Caribbean Cape Air flies. In addition, yachts that compete in all four Cape Air C.O.R.C. regattas will receive foul weather gear.

Yachts must participate in at least three regattas – one in the U.S. Virgin Islands, one in Puerto Rico and one in the BVI – to be eligible for raffle drawings and prizes.
